According to my mother, I was ‘born in a kitchen’ (she was there, she should know that I was not).
But her point rings true: I’ve always been in a kitchen, whether it was attempting to perfect eclairs when I was nine (I did not) or catering for wedding parties as a teenager. Life has taken me in a slightly different direction – in the ‘real’ world I’m a writer living in London – but I devote one day of the week to my true calling. Saturdays are for baking, and this is what I bake.
